Hidden oceans rumble
faintly, silent
as fluttering birds
under streetlamps of distance,
over hills frayed and unironed;
unkempt with the knowledge
of places nowhere else
—where larval uprisings
of life lie motionless,
painted by a brown artist
who forgot to paint the wind
on this sprawled
protuberance of Earth
that crawls
from a barren present
to unnamed days
trapped and imprisoned
in prisms of glacier.
