From over the mountain
the light climbed
a snow leopard
hunting the higher ground for
well-fed darknesses
that scampered
into ravines and chasms,
wedged and skewered in ovens
of inescapable equinox.

This was the feast
of the diurnal monster,
that salted its meat
on white slabs of horizon;
flavored in century,
marinated in bloodstreams
  of young, saline ocean.
